赵成（张甲田 饰）受父亲“右派”问题影响，在文革中被打成“黑五类”，并遭红卫兵曾晓蓓（相虹 饰）、李聪（陈启国 饰）等人殴打，后来性格变得忧郁孤癖的赵成远赴农村插队。不久后，由于父亲被打倒，晓蓓也作为“走资派”的女儿下放到赵成插队的知青点。赵成因保护企图污辱晓蓓的坏人，被栽赃为“企图污辱女知青的流氓”四处游斗，关健时刻晓蓓以未婚妻身份站出来保护赵成。几年后，率先返城的晓蓓不顾阻力与赵成结婚。文革结束后，赵成报名参加高考，却因父亲的历史问题未被入取，晓蓓对他的感情随之发生了动摇，但赵成不相信命运的安排......。One day, thinking that it will make your wife and friends smile, you shave off the moustache that you have had for the last ten years. Viewers who like their conclusions tidy may rebel, but those who relish outstanding performances in the service of an intriguing idea will be entertained.
