The show also focuses on the homesteaders who live by the Kilchers, including, Brother Roadkill, who eats animals lying dead on the side of the road.。活泼可爱的女孩罗小路在机缘巧合之下邂逅了程多伦，两人很快就成为了好友。罗小路为了给母亲买生日礼物而向程多伦借了500元钱，程多伦为了证明自己的实力，在暑假时来到了作家舒云的家里，成为了她的助理。 眼看着还钱的期限就要到了，还没有凑到钱的罗小路决定铤而走险当一回小偷，巧合的是，她选择的作案地点竟然正是舒云家。果不其然，初出茅庐的罗小路很快就遭到了逮捕，她即将面临的是漫长的牢狱之灾，不忍心看到罗小路身陷囹圄的程多伦请求舒云放她一马。程多伦的行为深深地感动了罗小路，她发誓出来以后一定要好好做人。。
